What we got wrong, and when we fixed it

Every correction to a published figure or claim is listed below, newest first, with what it was, what it became, and why. Nothing is removed from this list.

Machinery references shown as "Columns not labelled" for about three hours
The European Commission regenerated its machinery summary list workbook on 7 September 2026 with a changed layout: a "Type Standard" column was added and the "Start of legal effect" column was removed, alongside Decision (EU) 2026/2015, which cites 66 new rows and sets an end of legal effect on the references it supersedes. Our parser required the removed column, so from the collector run at 17:36 UTC on 28 September until the fix at about 20:40 UTC the same day every Machinery reference page and the register showed the state "Columns not labelled" with no dates, instead of the list's dates. No wrong date was published: the pages said explicitly that no state was asserted. The parser now treats the publication OJ date as the start of legal effect where the workbook has no such column and says so on the page. Because the daily comparison had not been running on labelled machinery rows between 7 and 28 September, the 1,733 row-level movements the workbook change produced are recorded on 28 September 2026 as one batch on the changelog, not on the days they happened.

Standards under watch: 1,363 corrected to 1,610
Our reference pattern stopped at the first space inside a standard number. The Radio Equipment list writes ETSI-style references as "EN 300 328 V2.2.2", so 263 distinct references collapsed into 14 truncated stubs such as "EN 300". The fault was present from the archive's first capture on 8 August 2026, and the published figure was 1,363 from the site's first build on 10 August 2026 until 31 August 2026. The Machinery and General Product Safety lists were not affected: their reference counts, 1,269 and 80, are unchanged before and after the fix. Two references appear under both Machinery and General Product Safety, so the per-regime figures sum to 1,612 while the distinct total is 1,610. Separately, the lists hold 1,726 rows in this capture, because the Commission adds a row per amended version; rows and references are now reported as two different numbers. The only place the old figure appeared in written content is the changelog annotation for 11 August 2026, which now carries a pointer to this entry. No analysis piece and no monthly record cited it, and no dated claim about an individual standard rested on it.

If you find an error, write to support@standardsdrift.com and say which page and which figure. A closed monthly record is never silently edited: a correction to one is published as a dated note on that page.
